Here’s how the contest will work:

  • Starting Saturday August 14, all entrants will select the team he or she would like to represent—Saratoga or Del Mar. A total of 10 races will be offered on the team “tryout” contest day—five from Saratoga and five races from Del Mar.
  • Each player will select one horse in each of the designated challenge races. Each race will have point values of five points for win, three points for place, and a single point for show.
  • The top 10 players, as determined by their individual point totals, will be declared on each team — Saratoga or Del Mar. Two alternates for each team will also be announced with team selections by Wednesday, August 18.
  • Both teams will square off on two consecutive weekends—August 22 and August 28 — with five races from each track up for grabs.
  • Sunday August 22 will be a “home” day for Del Mar with the $1 Million Pacific Classic, while the following Saturday August 28, is a “home” stand for the Saratoga team with the running of the $1 Million Travers Stakes.
  • The highest combined team score over the final two home and away dates will be declared the grand prize winner. It is a winner take all format with the winning 10 team members equally splitting the $5,000 (guaranteed) gross purse.
  • Each player MUST be an active account player. See rules for active account player. Register early for new accounts, don't be left out of the contest.
  • One entry per account, per eMail address.
  • Each contestant has acknowledged that they have read the rules posted.
  • If you have any problems with any of the forms please contact customer service immediately at (866) 891-5100, eMail, or Live! Help.

Contest Cost: This is a contest with a $25 entry fee, top prize is $5,000 (guaranteed) split equally among the 10 players on the winning team.

Contest Rules:

  • Each player MUST be an active account player. An active account player is one who has an open account and has complied with Oregon Racing Commission rules on opening accounts, including a minimum initial deposit of $50 and draft authorization or EZmoney form on file.
  • Each Entry fee is $25. Purse is based on 100% of entry fees and is guaranteed for $5,000.
  • One entry per account.
  • Each contestant will select one horse in each race. There will be ten (10) races each day.
  • Horse selection(s) for each race set will appear as a confirmation page that displays the selections.
  • Race History - To see a history of your selections you will be asked for a handle (nickname) and account number. You will be given the opportunity to cancel your selections on the form and select other horses before the closing period.
  • The horse selections in standings will not be displayed until after the points are assigned following the race.
  • No points are awarded if the race does not run.
  • Entry Form Errors - The entry form for each race will not change after posting unless an obvious error occurred in the original form.
  • The selected horse must start, there will be no points awarded for entry mates. Alternates will be listed if they are entered at the time the form is loaded into the contest system. Alternates will be designated as (AE).
  • Entry Times - Entries will be available each morning at midnight on the day before the race and close approximately one hour before post time. Exact entry times will be posted each week. All times are Eastern Standard times.
  • The contest will cover three days of racing with ten (10) races each day. The first day is a qualifying round.
  • Each contestant picks one (1) horse for each designated race.
  • Point Values - Each Win will be worth 5 points, Place 3 points, and Show 1 point. All dead heats count for full point value.
  • Tiebreakers - For the qualifying round, players will be asked to guess the highest payout for a win on the five races at Del Mar or Saratoga. The tiebreaker may be used to fill the top (10) slots and alternative positions. In the event both teams tie at the conclusion of the contest, the cumulative score of each players' highest payout on August 28 will determine the winning team.
  • Alternates - An alternate for each team will be invited to make their selections in the finals. Points from alternates will not be included unless a team member fails to make their selections for the finals. The alternate then becomes a team player and the team member that failed to make selections in either of the finals is eliminated from further competition. Points are locked after the entries are made official and certified after the first week. No points are removed from the original player if an alternate is selected to play in the second week. All points by the alternate will be added to the team totals only for the final week.
  • Failure to Log in - All purse money is forfeited to the alternate by team players who fail to make their selections. Alternates will be used to make up for absent team players. No substitutes will be allowed if the team falls below 10 players on either side. Once eliminated from competition for failure to login, the eliminated player will keep his points for the team total but will not receive any winnings, the alternate will receive his or her portion of the purse.
  • Low number of players - If either team fails to qualify 10 players and two alternates, then the alternates from the other team will be given the opportunity to join the other team as a full team member. This process will continue until both teams have enough team members to field 10 team members and 2 alternates. The finals will start with an equal number of players on each side. Should the total number of players fall below 20 then teams will be divided into an equal number of players and determined by the process above for selecting team members. One player will be an alternate if there is an odd number of players below 20.
  • Scratched Horses - The post-time favorite will be substituted for the scratched horse, determined by the Win Pool at the host track.
  • Point Totals - Once the teams are set after the qualifying round, all points are erased and each team starts with no points. All point totals from the first finals round will be carried over to the second finals round and totaled. Failure to log in on any given day will forfeit the rights to picks on those races. See rules on alternates.
  • The team with the MOST points at the end of the contest (August 28, 2004) will be declared the Winner. They will split the purse equally among the 10 finalists with a minimum $500 to each player. Money will be deposited into the accounts as future wagering dollars.
  • The contest will be confirmed and final on Tuesday, August 31, 2004. The winners will be notified by eMail and will be announced on that day with the winning team and nicknames of the winners.
